In my little hiatus from work I recently took one of my old toy horses and spray painted it with a flat grey primer in order to do value studies. It's a great tried and true way to study forms without having to deal with too much color information. Below is a timelapse video I took while painting. Overall time was about 3 hours but here it's condensed down to about 11 minutes. Software: Photoshop v.CS4. Music: LTJ Bukem Feat. MC Conrad

Do you think studies still help you improve, or do you just like to do it for fun?
I believe it is extremely important to continue life studies if for no other reason than to go from pretty good to great;) I still have a long way to go and will never stop practicing and refining my skills. Plus it's simply enjoyable to simply draw what is directly in front of you.

I'm a sophmore in highschool and I want to be a concept designer/ illustrator when I'm older. Do you have any advice on good colleges for this sort of thing or what kind of steps I should be taking to get better at this? I'd really appreciate some words of advise from someone as talented as you.

Wow you just completely blew my mind. What a fantastic way to study forms and even better in grayscale! I've been drawing for fifteen years and I'm struggling with color in Photoshop but this is simply great. Plus it'll help me wrap my head around animal anatomy.
It's interesting that you started on some minor lighter values first but then again you're the pro, do whatever you want :)
